Statins reduce the risk of thrombotic

Lowers cholesterol statins can significantly reduce the risk of blood clots, U.S. researchers believe. Scientists conducted a study which showed that statins reduce the risk of venous thrombosis by 43% in healthy people, including deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism - the most common cause of death of patients in hospitals. The study was published in the New England Journal of Medicine. Venous thrombosis or throm - is thrombosis of the deep or superficial veins of limbs with associated inflammation. Pulmonary artery embolism - embolism is the sudden occlusion pulmonary artery supplying the lung. Embolism is often a blood clot, but also can become fat, amniotic (amnion - germ envelope) fluid, fragments of the bone marrow, tumor, or a fragment of an air bubble that travels with the blood flow until it blocks the blood vessel. People who are long-term fixed way of life, are at highest risk of thrombosis, the scientists reported. Only in Great Britain die each year more than 25 thousand people from the disease. According to experts, it is necessary to conduct additional studies and, possibly, statins could be used for the prevention of thrombotic events.
