Green tea and mushrooms lower the risk of breast cancer

Use of mushrooms and green tea reduces the risk of breast cancer, researchers believe the Chinese. Scientists conducted a study, which was attended by more than 2000 Chinese women. It was found that the more fresh and dried mushrooms eat woman, so she has less chance of falling ill with breast cancer. The same applies to the daily consumption of green tea. According to new data, the low incidence may be explained by the traditional Chinese diet, which includes a large amount of mushrooms and green tea. Min Zhang and her colleagues from the University of Western Australia in the study included 1 009 patients with breast cancer (20 to 87 years) living in south-eastern China, and a similar number of healthy women of the same age. All women completed a detailed questionnaire regarding diet and frequency of consumption of products. It turned out that women who use more mushrooms than the other (10 grams per day or more), the risk of breast cancer was two thirds lower than in those who do not eat mushrooms. Women who eat at least 4 grams of dried mushrooms per day, the risk was 50% lower. Those who ate the mushrooms and drank green tea and the risk of breast cancer was only 11-18% of the risk of women not using mushrooms and green tea. Scientists argue that the exact causal relationships have not yet been proven. The experts took into account the main factors that can affect the health (weight, level of education, physical activity, smoking), but there may be other factors that explain the results of the study. Also, these experiments on animals confirmed that the mushrooms have antitumor effect and stimulate the immune system to fight cancer cells. Green tea, in turn, contains antioxidant polyphenols that suppress breast cancer in experiments on animals, said experts.
