Medicine for scurvy was found in 46 years earlier than thought. This became known after the accidental discovery cookbook Ebot Mitchell (Ebot Mitchell), dated 1707 year, which includes the appropriate recipe.
For the treatment and prevention of scurvy (as it became known much later, a shortage of vitamin C) Mitchell suggests the use of different plant extracts mixed with orange juice, white wine or beer. Such a mixture, of course, contains a sufficient number of the desired vitamin.
100-page book with recipes britanki was discovered accidentally in a house in Hasfilde, county Glostershir. In addition to prescription drugs from scurvy, it contains a variety of culinary and medical records, for example, drink recipe, like absinthe. The owners gather at the end of the month to sell it at auction in London.
Previously it was thought that pioneer the treatment of scurvy was a British physician James Lind (James Lind), published its «Treatise on scurvy» in 1753. This work was based on systematic experimental data and thus went down in history as one of the first clinical trials in history.
